One thousand years to the very day after the first Battle of Clontarf, a second group of invaders was defeated by a home team, greatly helped by SsangYong Main Dealer Peter Dennis.

To commemorate that original battle in 1014, local rugby club Clontarf had invited the world-famous Barbarians team to play at their home ground on Castle Avenue. Club member and SsangYong Main Dealer Peter Dennis wanted to make the event as dramatic and spectacular as possible so he arranged for the SsangYong Parachute Team to deliver the match ball to referee Nigel Owens just before kick-off.

Again, the ‘battle’ was a nail-biter to the very end, but the final result favoured the local side, winning by 43 pts to 42 pts, the first time an Irish club has beaten the touring ‘Babas’ since 1991.
