Audi has introduced a concept car that not only points to the introduction of a new electric sports car, but also embodies the brand’s new design philosophy.
Audi says Concept C demonstrates radical simplicity, which will be the core of the future design philosophy of the German car maker. It features a vertical frame that it says “reimagins the brand’s legacy and a distinctive four-element light signature.”
Its designers say it draws Inspiration from the 1936 Auto Union Type C and the third-generation Audi A6. The all-electric model has a central-battery layout and an electrically retractable hardtop. It is comprised of two roof elements which allow the vehicle to retain a monolithic shape, while also enabling an open-top driving experience.
The Audi Concept C marks the beginning of a new design philosophy and at the same time forms the basis of a new sporty model which should be in production in 2027. It has drawn comparisons with the TT, but this will be a bigger car, likely based on the forthcoming Porsche 718 platform and will essentially be a mid-engine sports car, but with electrical power instead of an internal combustion engine.
