From 51 eligible cars, selection of the shortlisted vehicles is based on votes from the 28 voting members of the IMWA, taking into account such factors as value for money, style, engineering and performance.

Tom Dennigan of sponsor Continental Tyres Ireland said: "As a snapshot of the range of excellent cars available to Irish motorists, this year's shortlist for the title has it all, from interesting and exciting new concepts to revisions of familiar old favourites".

Gerry Murphy, Chairman of the IMWA, said: "What an excellent range of cars in this year's shortlist - the most exciting for a number of years - they really show how, in latter years, the car manufacturers have developed a range of totally new car segments - it won't be an easy task to choose a winner from this great line up".
