Tim Hastings Volkswagen hosted the handover event, which coincided with the Mayo Mountain Rescue Team's 25th anniversary. The vehicles have been distributed amongst teams around the country, including the Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Teams.

The purchase of the new fleet of vehicles was made possible through a special once-off grant, announced in June 2014, by then Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar.

Kim Kilduff, Head of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Ireland commented: "We are delighted to be able to support Mountain Rescue Ireland in the admirable work they do throughout the country."

The vehicles will be spotted together again in Killarney Co. Kerry as Mountain Rescue Ireland hosts the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR) world congress in October this year.
