BYD, which has fast becoming a popular choice as a family oriented electric car supplier, has shown it technology and performance credentials by producing an EV supercar world record beater.
The Yangwang U9 is fitted with four electric motors, one on each wheel, generating 744 hp each. This means a total power output of 2,960 hp. Translate this to the track and the car can hit an amazing, 472 km/h, a little under 300 mph, making it the fastest electric vehicle in the world.
The record was broken at the Papenburg track in Germany, with Marc Basseng at the wheel. He had the aid of a special torque vectoring system and e4 Platform DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System to keep all the power in check and the car on a straight road. BYD says the car is based on, “the world’s first mass produced 1200V ultra high voltage vehicle platform”.
