Derek Tohill became the 2013 FIA European Rallycross Champion in the TouringCar category at the weekend after another fine performance this time at Greinbach in Austria were he took his fourth victory of the season.

Driving his PartsforCars.ie Ford Fiesta Mk7 RWD he took the 8th round of the 2013 RallycrossRX series and now holds an unassailable lead in the championship. It will be the second title for Derek and his team having previously taken the crown in 2010.

Derek commented after the event, “I came to Austria with a comfortable lead in the championship over Czech driver Roman Castoral, therefore the target for me this weekend was to finish ahead of him and to try to secure myself the title.”

The Czech did manage to win the qualification heat, but Derek then took victory in the intermediate classification after setting fastest times in the first and fourth qualifying runs. He then went on to win the semi-final allowing him to start the final from the front row. In the final Derek came out on top after a close fought race with Swede Robin Larsson.

During the post race celebrations Derek commented, “I'm delighted for the team to take the 2013 European Rallycross TouringCar title to Ireland.”

The final round of the 2013 RallycrossRX series takes place at Buxtehude in Germany next weekend (September 21-22).
