Closed-road rallying returned after being parked by Covid for 18 months with the O’Connell Group Cork ‘20’ International Rally on September 19.

Callum Devine and Brian Hoy from Derry in a Ford Fiesta R5 won the event after 9 competitive stages in Cork.  They finished 20.3 seconds ahead of the VW Polo GTi of Welshman Meirion Evans and Jonathan Jackson. Josh Moffett and co-driver Andy Hayes  in a Hyundai i20 R5 were third.

The Munster Car Club – organisers of the Cork 20 International Rally – were delighted with the turn-out for the event. There was a quality field of competitors and all eye were on the event to see if Ireland can return to rallying safely and successfully in the years ahead. Kevin O’Riordan was the Clerk of the Course and he paid tribute to all the volunteers and officials that helped on the rally afterwards.
