According to the latest data from Carzone more motorists are looking to make the switch to electric than ever before.

Website data has found that one in four new cars searched on Carzone are electric, compared to one in 20 at the beginning of this year.

The search data from Carzone also found that the total EV ads viewed on Carzone increased by 109% in November 2021 versus the same period last year, with the number of new EVs advertised on Carzone up by 115% in 2021. The number of used EVs advertised on Carzone has increased by 71% in November 2021 compared to the same period last year. In that time, used EVs have been advertised in 24 out of 26 counties in Ireland. The biggest growth is seen in Sligo, Galway, Mayo, and Laois.

Carzone also found that the average price of a used electric car is 26% higher than the average price of a diesel car, and up to 57% higher than the average price of a petrol car. The median price of a used electric car is currently €31,000.

While there is now more EVs for sale in Ireland than before, there are very few options for those looking to purchase a new EV on a budget. New car buyers with a budget of less than €30,000 are very limited when it comes to new EV options with only three models available for this budget - the Renault Zoe, the Peugeot e-208, and the Opel Corsa-e. In comparison, a quarter (25%) of new ICE (petrol and diesel) cars available on Carzone are priced under €30,000 with 19 brands and 75 models to choose from.

The Nissan LEAF was the most-searched EV on Carzone in this year so far, followed by the Audi e-tron and Volkswagen ID4. It is clear from the data that interest in Electric Vehicles is certainly on the rise however cost implications may impact whether motorists will follow through and make the switch to electric. 
 

Karl Connolly, Audience Manager Carzone said: “We have seen a big rise in interest in EVs this year from Irish motorists, with an increase of 176% more EVs available on Carzone, including 115% more new EVs advertised and 87% more used EVs advertised. However, EVs are expensive and with only three electric models available under €30,000 this will certainly impact the uptake in electric vehicles by Irish motorists”.
