Honda has confirmed their sponsorship of the Wings for Life World Run in Ireland, as official vehicle partner for the second year.

This years’ race takes place in Dun Laoghaire on May 3rd. As vehicle sponsor for the Irish race, Honda will provide the official race and support cars for the event, including the unique moving finish line, a Honda CR-V Catcher Car driven by Simon Zebo.

On 3 May 2015 runners of all abilities, fun runners and fanatics, young and old, will come together in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin to run the Irish race of the Wings for Life World Run.  They will join tens of thousands of other runners from six continents and 35 countries who will also start the race at the same time.

The Wings for Life World Run is a very unique race in that the finish line catches you. Thirty minutes after the athletes start, the Honda CR-V catcher car, driven by Simon Zebo will begin to follow all runners.  Driving slowly first, but increasing its speed at given periods, the Zebo-driven Honda Catcher Car is the moving finish line. The winner will be deemed the last person to be caught by the car, both in Ireland and globally.

Starting on the seafront in Dún Laoghaire, Irish participants will run south towards Bray and Greystones, enjoying the beautiful coastal views and scenic landscape of the East Coast.  There’s no static finish line, no set distance. Everyone finishes.

Commenting on his involvement as ambassador and driver of the Honda CR-V Catcher Car, Simon Zebo said: “Spinal cord injury could happen to anyone.  It’s heartbreaking and life changing and I know people who have been affected by it.  The Wings for Life World Run is an amazing global sports event and I am delighted to be a part of the Irish event in Dun Laoghaire.  Every bit of help, every bit of encouragement and every person I can get to sign up and get involved can only do good for raising awareness and money for spinal cord research.”

Adrian Cole, Managing Director of Universal Honda Ltd. commented: “It is a great pleasure for us to again be associated with the Wings for Life Foundation and the World Run. Wings for Life are funding important research projects into spinal cord injuries and we are proud to support them here in Ireland. The World Run is a great event, for a great cause and we are very pleased to have our Honda CR-V so centrally involved as the moving ‘Catcher Car’ finish line for the Irish event.”
