Chip shortage due to last most of 2022

Luc Chatel, the president of the French automotive industry association PFA says that the current chip shortage, which is restricting production in the automotive industry, is likely to last for most of 2022.

In a recent interview on French TV, he gave an indication of the problems the global automotive market is facing saying that currently French car assembly facilities are operating at only 60% of capacity. He commented “We are in a long-term crisis that will have a lasting impact on the automotive industry.”

He said at present car makers were only finding out at the last minute how many semi conductors are available, making longer term planning impossible.

With new vehicles likely to be in short supply and other inflationary pressures at play prices also look set to rise.
