Aftermarket seen as essential during Covid 19 outbreak Essential retail outlets includes retailers involved in the repair of motor vehicles
Share:

As many non essential retail outlets have closed their doors as the Covid 19 outbreak worsens, under the latest government restrictions the independent automotive aftermarket has been classed as an essential service provider.

The list of essential retail outlets published by the government includes: fuel stations and retailers involved in the repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and bicycle repair and related facilities (e.g. tyre sales and repairs).

This listing means that garages, bodyshops, motor factors and parts distributors can stay open through the current crisis, so that they can continue to offer services which may be required by essential workers and service organisations.

The ruling allows individual aftermarket businesses to make their own decisions in relation to continued operation, closure, or restricted hours. Businesses that remain open must adhere to social distancing guidelines.

At present NCT testing is continuing as normal, although this situation may be subject to review. Extra precautions are being taken at test centres and if you are visiting for a test, you are asked to follow guidelines set out on at nct.ie. Anyone displaying Covid 19 symptoms, or classed in a vulnerable group, is asked not to attend and to call NCT to cancel their test appointment.
