The Mercedes-Benz Actros has outpaced all of its major rivals to win Ireland's first ever Truck of the Decade Award.

The prestigious award, sponsored by RSA Insurance, will be presented at the Fleet Transport Awards dinner being held shortly in Dublin.

This will be the fourth occasion in the last ten years that Actros has stood in the spotlight at Ireland's Truck of the Year awards ceremony. On three occasions previously, Actros took the rostrum to receive Ireland¹s equally coveted Truck of the Year award.

On this occasion, the distinction of being chosen Ireland¹s Truck of the Decade is one that Mercedes-Benz is especially honoured to have. Commenting, their commercial vehicles sales manager Fergus Conheady said: "We are especially thankful to everyone who voted for Actros. The honour of being chosen to receive the prestigious Fleet Transport 'Truck of the Decade' is one that we value greatly."

In establishing its popularity and merit as Ireland's 'Truck of the Decade' winner, votes were sought from readers, drivers, truck owners and users through a comprehensive use of email and social media and from the many thousands of visitors to the recent Mondello Truck Show at which all leading truck manufacturers were present.

This independent endorsement of the Actros as a fuel efficient, environmentally-friendly, high-spec, long distance truck is reflected in its success on the Irish market where it has proven itself as the truck of choice¹ amongst many of the country's most prominent fleet operators.
