Profound shock hit the world of motorsport as ace rally driver Manus Kelly (41) was tragically killed in a crash at the Donegal International Rally.
Donegal Motor Club and Motorsport Ireland extended sympathies to the family and friends of Manus Kelly who was fatally injured during a tragic accident while competing in the Donegal International Rally on Sunday 23rd June 2019.
Manus, a father of five was a three time winner of the rally going for four in a row and was immensely popular in the rally fraternity. Known to his friends as Mandy, he died when his car left the road at high speed around 12.30pm on the Sunday afternoon.
He was elected to Donegal County Council for Fianna Fáil in the May local elections and was a prominent business man in Donegal.
Fianna Fáil leader Micháel Martin offered his sincere condolences and those of the Fianna Fáil party to Manus’s wife Bernie, his five young children, his parents Jacqueline and Donal, and to each of his eight siblings.
His Co-driver was also injured in the crash and was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital for medical attention.
A full investigation into the accident will be conducted by the relevant authorities.
