As traffic volumes increase with the easing of Covid19 restrictions, Toyota Ireland is hoping to highlight road safety issues with the return of its ‘FaceItDown’ campaign and app.

Toyota Ireland’s ‘FaceItDown’ app incentivises motorists to place their phone face down when driving in order to eradicate mobile phone distractions and ensure safer roads for all. For every kilometre driven with the app engaged and phones faced down, users can earn points which are redeemable against free hot beverages in Circle K outlets, cheaper FBD car insurance and a number of parking incentives with QPark.

The ‘FaceItDown’ app is available to all drivers and with thousands more cars and cyclists taking to the roads, Toyota offering the extra incentive of double points for all essential journeys taken for the period between June 15th – 10th July.

Steve Tormey, Chief Executive of Toyota Ireland commented, “With cars now being one of the safer forms of transport, it’s important that we remind people to remain safe while driving. Although it may be tempting for road users to text or check social media while on the road, it is estimated that drivers using a hand-held mobile device while driving are four times more likely to crash than drivers who are not. FaceItDown aims to encourage drivers to take more caution on the roads and create a safer driving environment for all Irish families. Stemming our brand promise, Built for a Better World, the app works to reward those who contribute to Ireland’s safer roads, and is available to all, even non Toyota owners.”

Since its launch in 2017, the innovative app, which was developed in Ireland by Toyota has recorded over 27 million kilometres driven in Ireland with phones faced down, resulting in safer driving conditions for all road users. As restrictions eased over the last two weeks and more people returned to the roads, there has been a 23% increase in kilometres driven across the country, in the first week of June, in comparison to the first week of May.

To become a safer driver and avail of some great rewards, drivers can download the free Toyota FaceItDown app on the App Store and Google Play. They then start the app before commencing a journey and face the phone down to collect points while driving.
