Osram was celebrating 110 years in the lighting business at Automechanika Birmingham and had an illuminating stand that was busy throughout the three days.

The OE and aftermarket automotive lighting supplier used the show to highlight a number of new innovations such as a complete LED/OLED rear light cluster demonstrator, a modular LED Matrix demonstrator, LED DRL and FOG lights as well as upgrade halogen and HID bulbs such as NIGHT BREAKER UNLIMITED and COOL BLUE INTENSE which provide garages with a great up-sell opportunity.  The company was also displaying a range of trade and retail point of sale displays and marketing material.

At the stand the Osram team where explaining how the future of conventional halogen and HID replacement bulbs will soon be in decline due to the latest developments in lighting technologies such as LED, OLED, Laser and Matrix. Osram is a leader in this technology working even closely with the leading vehicle manufacturers developing Laser and Matrix lighting solutions. In most recent years Osram have worked with BMW, and now supply the BMW i8 and more recently, the BMW 7 Series range with laser modules for headlight applications. Laser lights are the next big thing in automotive lighting. Thanks to their high luminance, which is significantly greater than that of any other light source available today, and the smaller space requirements of laser light, headlights can be made even smaller.

The LED-OLED rear light cluster demonstrator on the stand showcased four lighting functions, brake light, turn indicator, reverse light and rear light. With OLED it is possible to create illuminated surfaces in practically any shape or size and place them right next to each other opening up more design possibilities.

Garages attending the stand also had the chance to sign up to the Osram installer programme, which aims to increase bulb business by providing access to marketing material and technical information.
