A survey by one of the UK's leading job websites has found that although the automotive industry has been identified as a sector where there is one of the biggest training needs, it is actually one of the sectors where professional are least likely to get adequate training.

In short there is a huge gap between employee training needs and the amount of training actually taking place, something that is threatening the independent sector as well as many individual businesses.

2300 people from various industries responded to the CV-Library survey producing some interesting results with regard to the automotive sector. For example, some 95% of automotive professionals believed training to be essential to stay ahead of advancements in the sector, a figure that was one of the highest across all industries. However, 54% of automotive workers surveyed said they had no access to any training at all, against a national average of 29%.

The survey also found that when training is provided 95% of automotive employees feel more valued at work and would be more inclined to stay with the business. Against this 76% of automotive employees felt undervalued by their employer due to the lack of training.

Overall the survey shows that the right training in the automotive sector leads to improved job satisfaction and this has a direct impact not only on productivity, but also on staff moral, loyalty and retention.
