Although the technology has moved on leaps and bounds beneath the surface, the shape of the delivery van has pretty much stayed the same since it inception. Electric vehicle maker EVA believe that is about to change and has revealed a new modular design that could be delivering motor factor parts in the future.

Oxford-based Electric Assisted Vehicles says the future van is likely to have an aluminium flat chassis design and will of course have all electric power. Called the Lightweight Inner-City Solution (LINCS) it is designed for urban deliveries and has a 100 mile range, which is more than enough for most city delivery runs.

The developers of the concept say the beauty of the LINCS is that the platform allows for a flexible y modular design. This means the cab can be switched from left to right side, depending on country of use and behind it can have a van, pick-up or a dropside configuration.

The vehicle bodywork is made from completely recyclable composite materials and EVA says that with upgraded sensors and software the LINCS can be ready for autonomous use.

The new vehicle has also been designed to integrate with existing EAV delivery methods such as the   eCargo, which is smaller, pedal-powered, electrically assisted courier van.
