Applus Ireland, the company that operate the nationwide network of NCT centres, has confirmed that a full testing service, including under-body inspections will resume at eight of the 47 test centres next week. The news follows the suspension of this element of the test following concerns over the safety of scissor lifts.

The eight centres are some of the busiest in the NCT network and are located at; Ballymun and Fonthill in Dublin, Little Island in Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Killarney and Letterkenny. Six other centres are already offering full test services to selective priority customers, especially taxi drivers and the motor trade. Many other drivers will still be required to attend their test centre twice in order to secure their pass certificate.

Applus has said it is working on a programme of repairing the remaining lifts but this could take several weeks.
