European crash testing organisation Euro NCAP has awarded five-star ratings to the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Seat Ateca and Volkswagen Tiguan in its latest round of test.

The award means that these three cars are some of the safest on the road and best in their class.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a new saloon aimed at competing with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, while the Seat Ateca and Volkswagen Tiguan are both in the highly competitive SUV category which traditionally puts a high value on safety features.

A high standard safety equipment including the use of Autonomous Emergency Braking was especially praised by testers.
