Seat Leon - Bulb holder bother

Seat Leon - Bulb holder bother The bulb is easily accessed, but care should be taken with fitting

The owner of this 2005 Seat Leon has asked me to check the motor over before his NCT. He didn’t want to end up failing, and decided that having it checked over properly before the test was the best action.

He also mentioned that he had been flashed at night a couple of times lately. He wondered if the headlamp aim may be out. He suspected that may have been causing him to dazzle oncoming motorists. What he forgot to mention was that he had replaced a bulb himself recently.

The poor headlamp aim was, it turned out, caused by the misplacement of the bulb that the owner had changed. When I checked, I discovered that the bulb was neither correctly located or fully secured. The securing clip was loose, as well as mis-shapen.

Removing the bulb is quite easy on the Seat Leon, and access is good. Like all headlamp bulbs, secure fitting is important and this does depend on the clip being firmly in place.

With a little manipulation, I manged to reshape the clip back to the original shape. When the bulb was refitted, the headlamp aim was checked and now found to be good. The motor was now ready for the NCT.
