Tips and time savers from Blue Print

Parts specialist Blue Print has highlighted some time saving tips and fitting advice that can help garages to be more productive when it comes to many common jobs that they face on an everyday basis.

For example, the Nissan Qashqai and X-Trail are both very popular models in Ireland meaning that brake pad replacement on these vehicles is a common job. To assist with this, Blue Print offers a special brake pad fitting kit (ADBP480008).

This includes anti-rattle, or brake pad retaining clips, made from pressed steel and designed to prevent excessive movement of the brake pad in the brake caliper. They help to minimise the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) that can happen on the initial engagement of the brake pad to the brake disc.

The harsh operating conditions that the brake components are exposed to will, over time, contribute to the reduction of tension in the anti-rattle clips. This will cause movement of the brake pad in the caliper which may be heard or felt. This happens especially if new brake pads are installed with old clips. Damage can also occur during removal of the brake pads if excessive force is used. Ideally, the brake pad fitting kit should be replaced at the same time and every time, as the brake pads, to keep the braking system working as efficiently and quietly as possible.

Another common issue solved by Blue Print concerns the Axle Beam Mount on the Yaris 1 and imported Vitz 1. When the mount rubber becomes worn it causes uneven tyre wear and inconsistent vehicle handling. Blue Print recommends replacing both axle beam mountings for optimum reliability. Blue print offers a high quality economical replacement, ADT380183. For this procedure, the complete rear axle must be removed from the vehicle. This procedure is explained in a Blue Print ProTip which can be found here.

Blue Print has also produced a useful video detailing the diesel fuel filter replacement process for a Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDi, which has a filter assembly also used by many other Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda models. The filter protects the fuel system from particles and water and can become loaded with contaminants over time, requiring regular replacement as a result.

Using Blue Print fuel filter ADV182312, the three-minute video shows the entire replacement process from start to finish. The video can be viewed below.
