The subject of a recent febi Technical Blog was the replacement of the front wiper motor on some Opel/Vauxhall models.

Problem
The windscreen wipers are not working.

Cause
Failed wiper motor.

Solution
Remove the wiper arms and the plastic panel below the windscreen to gain access to the wiper linkage.

Remove the complete wiper linkage assembly from the vehicle, inspect it for any excess wear and replace as necessary.

If you are only replacing the wiper motor, ensure the motor and linkage is in the ‘rest’ position; this is marked with arrows on the wiper motor mounting bracket - ‘’LH’’ (left-hand drive) and ‘’RH’’ (right-hand drive).

Undo the linkage-retaining nut to the motor-splined drive and remove the three motor-fixing bolts; this is in order to remove the motor from the linkage.
(Fig. 1&2)

Attach the new motor to the linkage, which is supplied with self-tapping screws that thread into the fixing holes when the screws are inserted into the new unit. (Fig. 3)

Align the wiper linkage to the splined drive of the motor, making sure it is aligned between the arrows marked LH or RH - depending on vehicle specification - and tighten the new nut supplied. (Fig. 4)

Upon completion, refit the wiper linkage assembly to the vehicle along with the plastic panel and wiper arms. Test the operation of the windscreen wipers and adjust the wiper arm alignment as necessary )
