Electric vehicle quota system on the way?

The European Commission is moving towards a quota system for electric vehicles according to experts in Germany.

Despite claims by the Commission this would not happen it appears that the German Ministry for the environment has told news agency Reuters that without targets the carbon dioxide emission targets would be missed. Hubertus Heil commented, “There must be ambitious targets, otherwise we won’t make any headway.”

The idea has also gained favour with the German Social Democrat party, who have called for an EU-wide quota for electric vehicles as well as tougher laws for car manufacturers and more stringent monitoring of emissions levels.
