With lockdowns meaning many car users reducing or even completely stopping driving, there has been a dramatic increase in flat battery breakdowns, with the situation made worse by cold winter temperatures. To help combat these problems Draper Tools has launched a brand new range of Smart Chargers and Battery Maintainers, with models suitable for garages, breakdown recovery operators and motorists.

The new range includes four different models that will not only provide charge, but also extend the life of a vehicle’s battery. These chargers can analyse and recondition batteries and are suitable for a wide range of vehicles including, cars, motorbikes, vans and caravans.

The Draper 6V/12V Smart Charger & Battery Maintainer range is available in 2A, 4A, 6A and 10A  options (stock nos: 53491, 53490, 53489 and 53488) and will work with a range of 6V and 12V vehicle batteries. These smart chargers can be connected to a Lead-Acid or Lithium battery for a long duration without the risk of overcharging and can even be left overnight. The Draper range of Smart Chargers and Battery Maintainers can all be used in temperatures as low as -20°C.

Draper says, what sets this range apart from standard battery chargers is a special 10-step process that can analyse and repair a vehicle’s battery. The chargers can check the status of a battery and ensure it is kept at 95-100%, with the voltage continually monitored.  

The new Draper chargers can even be used on deeply discharged batteries. The 4A, 6A and 10A models have a desulphation function which allows the reconditioning of deeply discharged batteries. Thanks to the 10-step process, deeply discharged batteries can be restored by repeated charging with small current pulses to rejuvenate battery capacity.
