When splash means crash

Next time you drive through a puddle beware. Technically you could be playing your part in a road traffic accident and if you happen to splash a person, strictly speaking you should stop and exchange details. This might seem like a case of the law gone mad, but it is the view of at least one examiner at a Manchester driving test centre. Thirty one year old Michelle Kelly was failed at her driving test after she accidentally splashed a man at a bus stop when she went through a puddle. Her examiner said technically it was a crash and she should have exchanged details with the pedestrian.

Michelle said, "Apparently it constituted a traffic offence and he was treating it as a road accident, but if I'd swerved to avoid the puddle I might have caused an accident." The Driving Standards Agency has since said it would investigate the incident.
