PartsforCars backed FIA World Rallycross driver Derek Tohill made it to the semi-finals at the eleventh round of the championship in Turkey at the weekend. His fifth place semi-final finish moved him up to tenth in the hard fought World Championship standings.

Derek entered the Turkish event at the former Formula One venue near Istanbul on the back of a big accident in Italy just two weeks earlier, but was able to get off to a good start and was in the top ten at the end of day one. This included two impressive heat wins and meant a spot in the semi finals where driving the LD Motorsports Citroen DS3 Derek was placed fifth after some technical issues.

After the race he commented, “I got a great start in the semi-final but had nowhere to go in the first corner, it’s pretty tight here. I picked up a couple of technical problems with the car and lap-by-lap it gradually got worse. I couldn’t select any gears near the end and just carried the car home to get to the finish.”

Derek was pleased to not slip below tenth all weekend in the overall standings and was very happy with his times compared to his team mates Henning Solberg and Lars Oivind Enerberg and the championship leaders, on what is one of the most technically difficult tracks in the competition.

Next round of the World Rallycross Championship, takes place in Argentina at the end of November.
