Parasitic drain evolves into a non-start Corrosion was caused by washer fluid wicking up the loom into the Body Control Module
Share:

The customer’s complaint on this 2016 Ford Focus was that overnight, the battery would drain down and a jump start would be required in the morning. On several occasions, the Focus would not start at all, and the instrument cluster will not illuminate. Additionally, the vehicle would, very often, not switch off after the ignition key was removed.

This is a very common call to the Autobiz Technical Helpline, and we sent the known solution to the technician to check a few things. It is a common occurrence on this model that the windscreen washer pump leaks, and the windscreen wash wicks up the loom, making it’s way into the body control module. Once at the control module, corrosion begins to foul the pins and wiring. Then the corrosion continues into the control module, causing even more widespread damage.

Significant corrosion on this body control module connection plug, and severe damage the body module pins was quickly spotted. The extent of the damage meant that a new body module needed to be installed, and the connection plug was re-pinned. And a new washer pump was fitted.
