The AA is reporting that peak traffic problems on our roads will not be

as bad this winter. The return to school of children in September normally signals a return to traffic jams and hold ups, but autumn 2010 is expected to be the lightest in many years.

AA Roadwatch Controller Nicola Hudson said, “Two main factors are in play. Firstly, the downturn currently means car traffic is 4% down and truck volume is down 13%.” She adds, “Secondly, there have been very significant infrastructure improvements which have come on line in recent months.” She sights improvements to major roads such as the Dublin - Cork route, the Limerick tunnel and the M50 upgrade as being key factors.
