GS Yuasa has been recognised with the 2018 Boeing Company “Supplier of the Year” award in the category of innovation. The battery manufacturer was commended for its high-performance lithium-ion cells for space, as well as for outstanding technical support and contribution to current and future space programs.
GS Yuasa entered into a long-term agreement with Boeing in 2016 and since then the manufacturer has been supplying a range of space qualified lithium-ion battery cells for the leading aerospace company. GS Yuasa lithium-ion batteries were recognised by Boeing at the 2019 Boeing Global Supplier Conference in Los Angeles, California for their exceptional performance, deployment capability and scalability.
Working with Boeing to understand the mission requirements of their satellite platforms, GS Yuasa is instrumental in providing high performance energy solutions. Their large format lithium-ion cells are used to support Boeing’s commercial and government programs across multiple satellite platforms and power classes, including providing key engineering support services for the International Space Station. GS Yuasa has also provided aviation power solutions for Boeing, most notably the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
GS Yuasa lithium-ion batteries have been providing reliable, high-performance power on orbit since the early 2000's. Installed on over 180 spacecraft built in Japan and overseas, the specialist batteries have high energy density and long life. They boast a track record of being installed in numerous high-profile, special applications, from 6,500m below in the ocean to 36,000km high in space. The isolated and extreme nature of these inaccessible environments demand the highest levels of reliability.
