The owner of this 2011 Ford C-Max 1.6 had come in to see me as the ABS light was up on the dash. The sign of any warning light on the dash can be quite distressing, and I have had drivers who have come in believing that the brakes have failed because the light is on.
As well as the ABS light being on, the owner also commented that the cruise control was not operating. This would be a consequence of the failed ABS system. The first check I carried out, remembering to check the basics first before plugging in the scanner, was to check to see if the brake lights were working.
It turned out that the brake lights we also not working. After checking the feed to the brake light switch (or brake pedal position switch) and finding that there was a good feed, I decided that replacing the switch would be the best move.
With the new brake light switch in place, the ABS issue was rectified, along with the cruise control, and the brake lights now worked.
