The VBRA (Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association) in the UK has launched new Commercial Vehicle ADAS Guidance, for the safe repair and service of ADAS equipped commercial vehicles.

The organisation stresses, the proper repair of Commercial Vehicles, whether mechanical or as a result of accident damage, is paramount. It's crucial that these vehicles are repaired by competent technicians, ensuring they are returned to the roads repaired and calibrated exactly as the vehicle manufacturers intended.

This guidance issued will support those involved in vehicle repair, servicing or maintenance ensuring they fulfil their responsibility to restore vehicles to pre-accident or pre-repair operational conditions.

The VBRA is committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance across the commercial vehicle repair sector. In response to the growing complexity of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in modern commercial vehicles, the VBRA along with other contributors have developed dedicated ADAS Guidance to support repairers in maintaining system integrity and ensuring vehicles are returned to the road safely and correctly.

This guidance provides clear, practical, and industry-aligned information tailored specifically to commercial vehicle repair operations. It reflects current best practices and manufacturer recommendations. Repairers using this document can be confident they are following a process that prioritises road safety, liability mitigation, and professional competence.

Tim Cam at BELRON, one of the supporting partners, comments, “This guidance document is exactly what the HGV repair sector has been demanding for quite a while. Whilst ADAS and safety systems have been very prominent in the car sector, the HGV sector has been sadly neglected. In the last few years, there has been a technical revolution within HGV vehicles and the manufacturers have introduced so much new safety technology to their vehicles. For HGV repairers, this draft provides a clear ‘best practice’ on the structural processes which will ensure that HGV vehicles are repaired to the highest standards. The guidance follows proven principles and aligns with repairers applying the methods and processes that will support a quality repair.”
