Demonstrating its leadership in the field of electric vehicle and battery diagnostics, Bosch had three diagnostic tools on show at Automechanika Birmingham which are totally new to the Irish and UK aftermarkets.

BAL 2260 is a high voltage charger / discharger, BCB 5524 is a high voltage Cell Balancer and BTD 101 is a high voltage Battery Tightness Tester. Although new to Ireland and the UK, these units have been used in Norway, which is Europe’s most advanced EV market and by OEMs for some time, so are tried and tested equipment items.

The BAL 2260 charger and discharger is a practical solution for the maintenance of battery pack modules in electric vehicles. It enables fast charging and discharging of offline battery pack modules, thus helping to improve maintenance efficiency. The BAL 2260 is simply connected to the positive and negative poles, which makes handling safer and easier. In addition, the BAL 2260 offers automatically generated charging and discharging reports that enable easy tracking and documentation of maintenance activities.

The BCB 5524 is specifically designed for electric vehicle battery packs and offers precise voltage balancing, improved battery performance and a long service life. Thanks to its intelligent control, real-time monitoring and comprehensive protection mechanisms, the BCB 5524 ensures safe and efficient operation. After connecting the BCB 5524, the cell and cable connections are immediately checked by precise voltage detection. The device is compatible with various lithium battery types and supports both single cell and independent channel balancing. It is especially useful when there are large voltage deviations between cells and can precisely configure connected cells to the same voltage target.

The BTD 101 tightness tester offers automatic pressure regulation and comprehensive data management. This makes it an indispensable tool for workshops working on components such as battery packs and motor drive boxes. The BTD 101 tests the leak tightness of a wide range of modules, including battery packs, liquid cooling plates and motor drive boxes, thus contributing to the safety of electric vehicles. It works with an Android 4.4.2 operating system and offers a user-friendly interface on a 10.1-inch display. The leak tester automatically adjusts the pressure to the set target pressure and inflates the product. Once the target pressure is reached, it automatically switches to wait mode and starts leak detection.

These new tools will be of special interest to any workshop specialising in EV maintenance, repairs and accident repairs.
