So what happens to your scrap cats?

ALU-CAT collects and sorts through all your scrap cats. Dealing with whole, sealed catalytic converters involves the grading of different makes, models and sizes of scrap converters.

Once the scrap cats are returned to ALU-CAT, the ceramic catalyst is carefully and completely removed from the inside of the cat, by precisely shearing the steel casing open. Once the casing is open, the bead or honeycomb biscuits that contain the precious metals can be processed. Because the recovery value is in the platinum group metals (PGM) coating on the ceramic material, it is important to collect all the dust and small pieces that are contained within the cat. In most cases, the scrap ceramic material is crushed or milled to a uniform powder for further processing at another high-tech facility to extract the precious metals.
