It is with profound sadness that we at Autobiz mark the passing of our esteemed former colleague and dear friend, Seán Ashe. A true legend in the Irish motor trade, whom we were privileged to have known and worked with for many years.
Seán’s distinguished career spanned many decades. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident in his diverse business interests across Galway, which included among other things, car hire, petrol station and the establishment of his own successful franchised dealership on the Headford Road. He was also a valued collaborator with many of the city's leading firms.
Nationally, Seán made an indelible mark as a trailblazer in the motor trade, pioneering the importation of Japanese vehicles into Ireland. Always one step ahead of the curve, his work took him from bustling cities to remote auctions, where he sourced thousands of vehicles for the Irish market and forged lasting friendships in the process.
Beyond the showroom, Seán's passions were deeply rooted in his beloved Galway. A former prop for Galway Corinthians RFC in the 60's and 70's, his love for rugby was immense, and he was a passionate and lifelong supporter of Corinthians RFC, Connacht and the Irish national team. He was a fiercely proud Galwegian, but would always clarify with a trademark smile that he was a "Corinthian" Galwegian—a subtle but important distinction from the rival Galwegians RFC! His interests also extended to equestrian sports, having run the Salthill show jumping event in the 1980s and in later years, he cultivated a deep passion for local Galway history.
Here at Autobiz, Sean will be missed where, even in retirement, he would pop out to the office for a visit and to keep up with the news.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Marie, children Deirdre, Seán Óg, and Sinéad, and to the extended Ashe family.
