The new Toyota Corolla, Mazda 6 and Lexus IS have been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP in the latest round of crash testing.

The Lexus IS300h was the top performer of the three, scoring a very impressive 91% in the adult occupant protection tests, 85% for child occupant protection, 80% for pedestrian protection and 66% for its safety assist systems.

Other cars tested included the Opel Adam which achieved a four star rating and the Mitsubishi Space Star which was also awarded four stars.
