Philips help garages see the light on bulb upgrades

Darker evenings always brings a scramble for replacement bulbs, but while many garages make the most of this great business opportunity, too many still do the bare minimum when it comes to bulb replacement.

Philips Automotive is encouraging all garages to offer bulb upgrade options, so that they can boost customer satisfaction and revenue and have produced a series of videos, presented by Garage Consultant and Philips Brand Ambassador, Andy Savva, to explore up-sell opportunities.

In most instances, when a bulb fails there will be an opportunity to offer the customer an upgrade option that will improve visibility and safety, through a brighter light and a longer beam, or offer a longer service life. As Andy Savva explains, when these options are explained to most customers, they are happy to pay a little extra for the added safety benefits. This is especially true for an older demographic of motorists, who find their eyesight deteriorating. In fact, as we get older, the lenses in our eyes become darker and we need three times more light as a 50-year-old to see the same distance as a child of 12. Better bulbs that light up the road more effectively, therefore, are without question one of the best-value safety upgrades it is possible to make. As Andy explains when talking to customers, technicians only need to ask a simple question: “Would you like more light when driving at night?”

Changing lighting technology over recent years, means that this will be the biggest winter yet for replacement of Xenon and LED lighting. The Philips range covers all of these and other lighting requirements with attractively packaged products that offer OE lighting performance, or in many instances an actual improvement, at prices that represent excellent value.

In his informative videos, Andy also makes the important point that bulbs should always be replaced in pairs. This not only looks better and means no compromise in performance, it is also more convenient for customers, saving them a double visit, as failure on one side usually means the opposite side is on the way out and will soon need replacing.

Philips Lighting products are available from stockist nationwide. To see the Philip Garage Inspector videos, go to the Philips Automotive Lighting Europe YouTube Channel and click on the garage inspector link.
