Cutting costs is something that every bodyshop strives to achieve, yet sometimes a business may be literally throwing money away, because of inefficienet working practices. One area where many repairers can easily tighten their belts, is by recycling blunted spot weld drill bits.
These are expensive consumable items that are all too often discarded once worn. However, by making an investment in the ROKEN 1000K Spot weld cutter grinder from Blackhawk, these bits can be recycled and reused many times.
One bodyshop that has recently installed the compact piece of equipment is Pratt’s Auto Bodyshop of Carlow and MD Nigel Pratt has already started to see the savings. He comments, “We have been looking for a way to be more cost efficient in this area and the Blackhawk grinder really fits the bill. It means we no longer have to replace broken or worn welding bits, but instead can recycle and reuse them after a quick, easy and safe resharpening process. It allows us to substantially cut our consumable expenditure and this will add up to a big cost saving every year.”
The ROKEN 1000K features a diamond edged sharpening wheel that reshapes a perfect point. On average, a brand new bit can be re-sharpened 25 times which means it could make around 3600 more spotwelds.
Nigel adds, “Theo English, the Blackhawk distributor in Ireland, installed the equipment and trained our staff, meaning we could start making use of it straightaway. It is a relatively inexpensive item by bodyshop standards, but one that can really cut your costs.”
