Dealer buys car back after 75 years

Car dealers can often get a raw deal when it comes to publicity, but this story from the UK illustrates that often there can be a strong bond between the dealer, several generations of drivers from the same family and in some cases even the car.

The Hendy Group is a family owned business well known for it Ford connections in the South of England. It was actually the first official Ford dealer in 1910 and today has some sixty multi franchise outlets. To show its longevity in the market and its commitment to customer care, the company has just bought back a car in pristine condition that it sold, new, in 1949.

The car in question if a 75 year old Ford Anglia, complete with original paperwork and ultra low mileage of 4,463 miles. The original sales receipt shows it was sold by Percy Hendy Ltd for £319 to Ms. Lily Cull from Eastleigh.

As you can guess by the mileage the car led a pretty sheltered life with just three owners taking careful care of it. It was recently purchased by Rebecca Hendy, chairperson and trustee of the Hendy Foundation, a charity arm of Hendy Group. She commented, “It’s fantastic to be able to honour a piece of Hendy history and celebrate our longstanding partnership with the Ford Motor Company. We vow to give it the care and attention it deserves, while also allowing many members of the public to see it properly.”
