FAG is a leader in the supply of bearings for cars and other types of vehicles, and is one of the major aftermarket suppliers in the bearings field. The company is generally acknowledged to be the true innovator in this sector, when in 1883 founder Friedrich Fischer designed a ball mill that, for the first time, allowed machines to be used to produce steel balls with high precision and in large volumes.
FAG was acquired by INA-Holding Schaeffler KG in 2001, and is now one of the three brands of the Schaeffler Group.
As well as bearings for the automotive industry, FAG supplies bearings for aerospace applications, plus all types of industrial bearings, from tiny examples for precision equipment up to large-size bearings with outside diameters of over four metres for wind turbines.
In recent years the company has been active in developing many new automotive technologies, including sensor wheel bearings for passenger cars.
