Opel Corsa heater trouble

The heater blower motor on this 2007 Opel Corsa SRi was not operating. Once moving, a decent draught of warm air would circulate into the cabin. But the windscreen also needed to be cleared in stationary traffic, and this wasn’t happening.

I at first though that the problem was going to be the resistor pack. On a large proportion of failed heater blowers I see, the heater resistor is the cause of the failure. Even when the blower does not operate on full speed, the resistor should not be ruled out. It is always worth checking  the resistor.

It was the motor itself that had failed. The bonus is that the blower motor on this model is easily accessed and changed. With a book time of just 0.3 hours.

Once the old blower motor was removed, I could see that water had crept in through the air intake and corroded the motor. The tell tail signs of rust could be seen on the lower fixing bolts.
