Allianz Partners, provider of roadside assistance says that the top call-out request in April, May and June was for flat batteries.

The dominant provider of roadside assistance with 45% of the market says that the number of flat battery problems were almost 72% up compared to the same period in 2019 (3,281 in 2020 compared with 1,910 in 2019).

As expected, due to travel restrictions, roadside car recoveries in April and May were significantly down on figures for 2019, at 704 in April (compared to 1,638 in April 2019), and 924 in May (compared with 1,582 in May 2019). Conversely, the number of call-outs in which technicians were able to provide on-the-spot roadside assistance increased significantly in April and May of this year compared with last.

The request for wheel change (puncture) was down significantly in 2020 where there were a total of 531 in April and May of 2019, and 291 in the same period of 2020.

Speaking about the figures, Mr Roland Hesse, Managing Director of Allianz Partners said: “These figures are interesting because they do seem to indicate that that the government advice to stay at home and within a short distance of your home was heeded during what has become known as the lockdown.  Our technicians were also able to attend twice as many call-outs per day as we would normally be able to service due to the traffic being considerably lighter than normal.”

Allianz Assistance is not just an emergency response. It has trained ambassadors at all points of customer contact, technical expertise, Apex dispatch solution and Bosch diagnostic equipment. With five technicians covering the Greater Dublin area and one for Cork, it also has a fully vetted nationwide network of 103 recovery operators. On average, the Allianz Assistance technician fleet carries out 7.9 jobs a day with a 91% fix rate.

The company, celebrating 30 years in business, employs 70 people based at its headquarters in ParkWest Business Park, Dublin 12
