It is reported in the UK press that insurers have finally settled a repair bill of £910,000 for damage to the McLaren F1 supercar driven by comedian Rowan Atkinson.

Damage to the vehicle sustained in a crash in August 2011 resulted in the biggest repair bill ever recorded in Britain after McLaren’s expert technicians spent a year restoring the supercar at their Surrey base. It is believed that it took four weeks just to produce an estimate.

Normally a repair bill of this type would result in a write-off, but as last year a similar model sold for £3.4million the insurance company had to agree repairs. The Mr. Bean actor, who had the car in everyday use before the accident, is now expected to see his insurance premium rise to £60,000.

The £910,000 repair bill is said to be three times as much as the previous record payout for a repair in 2010 when Aviva paid £300,000 to repair a Paganini Zonda test car.
