Wiper maintenance key to a clear and safe view

Windscreen wiper blades need to be regularly replaced to ensure a clear view of the road and safe driving. However, wipers also need to be maintained between changes to ensure optimum performance. Wiper specialist Bosch has provided some simple advice on how to make sure blades provide excellent wiping results and a long service life.

Wiper rubbers should be regularly cleaned to wash off any residues of insects, resins and pollen. Bosch recommends using an insect sponge for this job if possible.

Regularly check the level of windscreen washer tank and top up if required. When doing this it is important to use a good quality screen wash and ensure it is mixed in the right ratio, where mixing is required. In winter drivers should ensure they are using a suitable low temperature screenwash.

Wipers should be replaced annually, with the best time to replace being after the winter season.

If a windscreen is affected by leaves or coarse dirt, this should be removed by hand. Operating the wipers on a heavily soiled screen can cause wiper blade damage.

In freezing temperatures it is recommended that wipers should be lifted from the screen overnight, or have foil or cardboard placed between the wiper blade and windscreen.

If wipers do become frozen they should not be operated until they have been defrosted.

Bosch offers a complete range of replacement wiper blades for all types of vehicles, including flat and conventional blades for front and rear applications.
