Towing tragedy in UK
Share:

Last month came the sad news of the death of two UK tow truck drivers, as they worked on a vehicle on the M6 near Sandbach services in North West England. The tragedy has once again brought calls for recovery operators to be able to use flashing rear red lights in dangerous situations.

It is believed the two men were changing a rear offside wheel when they were struck by a HGV and killed. One was 69-year-old Thomas Southward from St Helens and the other 39-year-old Philip Cawley from Wigan.

UK recovery trade associations have been campaigning for flashing rear red lights for some time, to reduce the risks of roadside working. They argue that flashing amber lights are now so commonplace on our roads that many motorists no longer see them as a warning and slow down.
