The death has taken place of Tom Monaghan, founder of Monaghan & Sons, Galway and Castlebar.

Tom Monaghan first set up in business in 1948 with his wife Phyllis in Moylough Co. Galway. In 1967 the family and their business moved to Headford, Co Galway.

As one of the first Skoda dealers in Ireland Monaghan’s enjoyed considerable success before Tom’s sons Leo and Joe Monaghan moved the vehicle sales and service side of the business to the Tuam Road in Galway city in 1992. This year Monaghan’s opened a state-of-the-art Skoda showroom at their site in Galway.

Today Monaghan & Sons Galway is one of the West’s most successful dealers, employing 46 people. In 2002 David Monaghan continued the family tradition and opened a Skoda, Mazda and Hyundai dealership in Castlebar which employs 14 people.
