Hybrids are now one of the most common form of powertrain on Irish roads, providing a convenient bridging point between traditional combustion engines and fully electric vehicles. Because they rely largely on combustion engine power, spark plugs play a vital role in their performance and efficiency. However, hybrid vehicles place particular demands on plugs that means not all replacements are suitable.
The Bosch EVO spark plug is not only suitable for normal engines, but has also been especially developed with hybrid vehicles in mind.
Because hybrid vehicles will often run on pure electric power, the spark plugs have to cope with a higher frequency of cooler operating points. This can increase sooting and cause the spark plug to cool down more frequently. Deposits can build up on the insulator nose, which can create a partially conductive, competing pathway. This can result in an inefficient spark or in the worst case, in failure to ignite.
Bosch EVO plugs are designed to combat this issue with excellent cold start performance and are subjected to rigorous cold-start tests. This involves deep cooling to -20 °C and a series of short driving an extended cooling cycles to simulate multiple cold starts. Through this extensive testing process, technicians can be confident that Bosch EVO plugs have the capability to deal with the demands of hybrid vehicles.
Bosch EVO plugs are also designed with the future in mind, with a robust construction able to cope with increased power, emission reduction and efficiency demands.
