UK Recovery operator Saunders has taken delivery of a new Volvo recovery vehicle thought to be the biggest ever seen. The FH-520 10x4 rigid has an added fifth axle as well as a host of heavy-duty recovery features, such as a rotating crane and an under-reach unit. The basic truck chassis came from Volvo Dealer, Hartshorne Potteries, with Boniface Engineering doing the conversion work.

Proud owner, John Saunders, says, “I believe it's the biggest Volvo recovery vehicle built." He adds, "We've always used Volvo for the heavy stuff. They’re good trucks and we have quite a few on the fleet. They're hard-working, well-built and very reliable indeed."

The truck is plated at 150 tonnes GTW, meaning it is big enough to tow a 110-tonne mobile crane. Its Miller 75-tonne rotating crane also features five winches – meaning it can right an overturned articulated container with out the need for a second recovery vehicle.
