US electric carmaker Tesla, has provided a glimpse of what an electric vehicle dominated aftermarket might look like. It has a radical plan for dealership aftersales facilities - it won’t have any. The US electric sports carmaker will instead send technicians out to customers, rather than bring customers into workshops. It plans to charge customers just a dollar a mile travelling charge plus repair costs and time.
The company believes that such a plan is viable and more customer friendly than the existing aftersales model, as electric cars require less complex maintenance because of fewer moving serviceable parts.
