One of Europe’s most popular cars, the Astra, is about to change again with a new model to be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Believe it or not, this will be the sixth generation of Opel’s popular family car, which has undergone quite a transformation through the years.

A team headed by Mark Adams, the British designer responsible for the award winning Insignia, has designed the latest Astra. With an all new chassis and longer wheelbase, it will be powered by an all-new engine line up, including a low emission 1.4T 140PS turbocharged petrol power unit.

Initially, the new Astra will be offered as a five-door hatchback, with a three-door model and estate version to follow later.
