Scrappage causes independent concerns

As car dealers and SIMI continue to press for a scrappage scheme in Ireland, concerns have been raised about how such a scheme in the UK is having a negative impact on the independent garages sector.

It is estimated that the scrappage scheme has taken some 400,000 older cars off the road and this means a huge loss of potential business for independent repairers.
A survey of garages, found that a quarter of independent garages now have doubts about business survival and blame the scrappage scheme for the uncertainty.
